Working tirelessly in my spare time, I'm delighted to share that I've made notable progress on the sequel to The Vampire. To date, I've written 152 pages of extraordinary storyline that will pull readers back into Rex's dramatic world where he discovers even more about the complexities of his vampiric nature. While readers will find many of the same characters as in the original work, they will also be introduced to new ones that take Rex's life in a whole new unforseeable direction. Stumbling across a witch seeking refuge from the harshness of modern society, the vampire learns quickly that there are others in this world who possess an even greater understanding of the universe than he. But, he must decide whether or not to trust this practitioner of witchcraft with supernatural powers, before asking her to teach him what she knows.
This sequel is the perfect continuation to Rex's story as he navigates his difficult existence in a primarily mortal world, which he has found is just as evil as the vampire world he left behind so long ago. All, while trying to protect those he holds dearest. There is a lot more to write before this story is finished. So far, every word, sentence, and scene has found its way to me through inspiration, as it has for every book I have written, so I will continue to see, listen, and feel, until I finish. I promise, it will be well worth the wait!

Today, I hit the 100-page mark writing the sequel to The Vampire. Hitting page milestones is uplifting because seeing measurable results in the way of page numbers, chapters, and scenes motivates me to want to create more and finish the compelling continuation of the story in The Vampire to share with readers. The book is coming together nicely and basically writes itself. All I have to do is listen to and feel the inspiration I receive from everywhere including the research I conduct, conversations I have with friends or new acquaintances, viewing architecture or artwork, or listening to classical music, and then find ways to work that inspiration into the story in meaningful ways. I still have several hundred pages to go, but hitting today's writing milestone offers a great feeling of accomplishment.
To fans of my supernatural thriller The Vampire, I have begun penning its dramatic sequel. So far, I have approximately 70 pages written and have been spending much of my free time working on this new book because, as I've always been, I am so in love with Rex and his story, set in historic Newport, Rhode Island.
Since releasing The Vampire, readers have been reaching out with requests for the sequel, because they found themselves taken with Rex’s heart-wrenching existence, as well as that of the many supporting characters that make The Vampire such a riveting, compelling, and entertaining read. As readers are already aware, Rex is not your typical unconscionable vampire who is driven to kill without a thought about the repercussions of his actions. He surprisingly has a conscience, and respects the lives of all animals as well as nature, which he is convinced has awareness and consciousness. He also has quite a likable, and sometimes humorous personality. In the harrowing continuation of this ancient vampire's story, readers can look forward to seeing many of the original characters from The Vampire, including the main character Rex (the vampire), his love interest Renée, the vampire’s loyal Butler Piedmont, his pet dog Hank, and Chester the owl, as well as Balázs, and Valder. But, there's an exciting addition to The Vampire family, a witch that I have been obsessed with creating. The relationship between Rex and this witch will have readers up all night turning the book's pages to see what happens next. I don’t want to give too much away about her character yet, but I do want readers to know that she is worth the wait, and will bring a lot to the story and to Rex’s life. Listen Live WSBS article Happy New Year, everyone.
2023 was one of the most challenging years of my life with my father's unexpected passing. While the first half of the year was joyous for many reasons, including finishing and releasing my latest novel, The Earth Consented, the second half brought profound sorrow. There were blessings within it, however, which included having the opportunity to have one last meaningful conversation with my father before he lost consciousness and his ability to speak. The signs he sent me following his passing were undoubtedly him - no question. For that, I am forever grateful. From those signs, I am keenly aware that he is at peace where he is, and can communicate with my mother and me in fascinating new ways, which have left us in awe. He promised he would do that before he left and he kept that and many other promises. I intend to honor my father's life for the rest of mine. With the start of a new year, I believe I will find some peace and healing in writing my next book, the sequel to The Vampire, which readers have been requesting for years. I've already started. No telling how long this book will take to complete, but my imagination is engaged - that's all I truly need. That, and time. Below are some photos of my dad, Edwin, during happy times, as well as some photos I'm using for inspiration for the new book, which will include many of the characters from The Vampire, as well as a few new ones I am really enjoying creating and I know readers will love, too. The Warwick Beacon attended my recent book signing and launch for The Earth Consented (sci-fi / human contact with aliens) at the Cranston Public Library.
Read the article here: The Earth Consented is dedicated to my father, Edwin J. Smith, Jr. My dad recently suffered a medical emergency but is thankfully slowly and steadily recovering. He would have absolutely loved the book launch and signing, but he was unable to be there. He was, however, aware of the event and enjoyed hearing all about it afterward.
No one loves science fiction, and tales of UFO and alien sightings more than my dad. Growing up, television shows and movies such as Star Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, were always on in our house, and we’d talk endlessly about the otherworldly concepts presented. I grew to love the genre and found that being exposed to (what seemed then to be) such outlandish stories stoked my creative imagination. For that, I am forever grateful. My latest work, The Earth Consented, feels like a culmination of everything we’ve been discussing for decades, so it was only appropriate I dedicate this book to him. I do expect my father to be riding around on his tractor (which he loves) as soon as humanly possible, once he makes a full recovery. Thank you to everyone who has offered kind words of support, well wishes, and prayers. He, my mother, and I sincerely appreciate it. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who took time out of their busy weekend to stop by my book signing event for my latest novel, The Earth Consented. It was truly a magnificent event with so many loyal readers showing up to hear more about my work, buy a book, and have me sign it. The Cranston Public Library is the perfect space to hold this type of event, and its staff is incredibly attentive, courteous and accommodating. I hope everyone who now has a copy of The Earth Consented enjoyed it as much as I did writing it. (Photography by: Ryan Pickering) |
